Resources for Teachers: Animals

Using animals for educational purposes is an acceptable practice under strict guidelines to assure the health and safety of children, and under the provisions of The Illinois School Code. In conformance with the code, no experiment upon any living animal for the purpose of demonstration in any study shall be made in any of our schools. Only dead animal specimens obtained by school personnel from biological supply houses will be used in classrooms. Under no circumstances will animals be killed in the school.
